Education
Everybody goes to school somewhere. These are the places where I went to get where I am today.
Drury University
As an undergraduate I attended Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. Drury is a private liberal arts college originally founded in 1873 by the Congregationalist church in the mold of established universities like Yale and Dartmouth. Although I very much love my alma mater – and it is a very good regional school – it isn’t quite as established as it’s role models are. I studied History, earned minors in German and Global Studies, and took a number of elective courses in Philosophy while there. My coursework emphasized several academic areas: Intellectual History, American History, Fundamental German, and Global Studies. Fittingly, my Senior Thesis was on Frederich Nietzsche and his critiques of Christianity.
University of Missouri
I earned my masters degree from the University of Missouri in Information Science and Learning Technologies. My particular area of emphasis was in Library Science, although I spent a deal of time loading up on web development coursework as opposed to more traditional studies. In particular, my course load dealt with digital libraries, elcronic resources, and the Internet. This included learning HTML, basic web application programming, and several dozen other applicable skillsets. One of my professors, Dr. Thomas Kochtanek, gave me an outlet to practice my newfound skills while working on a small digital library project with the Pictures of the Year International Competition. My core areas of competency include general web development, digitization, electronic collaboration, and special library environments.
